If you "MUSTACHE" it's a boy!!

Everyone!! I hosted my first baby shower, and it was a great success! It was for my twin sister Kelsey, she is having a baby boy (Kenton Topher) due.... around November 7th. I was able to host it with her awesome friends, Shalyse Hukil and Amber Gardner. We had lots of fun planning it. Since this is the first boy in my family, we wanted to have fun, so we decided to have a mustache themed party. Oh boy! It sure was fun. For those of you who know me I kinda go crazy with these things. I really enjoyed preparing things for this shower and I am going to share how the party turned out!

The invitations: I had an idea run through my head as soon as we decided to make it a mustache themed party. I began working with scrapbook paper and stamps. Finally after a few rough drafts I came up with an invite. I traced mustaches on black card stock (and sweet Kelsey helped cut them out!!), I made a template for a tie and glued it all on paper. When I was done with the paper things, I was able to find a stamp. After putting them all together, it was time to write on all of the invitations. The writing took the longest part, but it was so so much fun!

The decorations: For the frames, I bought those a while ago for my room, but they were just sitting still in the plastic wrap. So I thought it would be a perfect time to pull them out. I had scrapbook paper and made things up that when along with our theme. There were sayings such as "Little Man advice", "Wet you Whiskers", and "Thanks for coming to support our little man, please take a dapper little stache on your way out" (I traced and cut out mustaches out of foam and glued them on Popsicle sticks). They were all fun and cute. I had too much fun making these! Amber made adorable tissue paper balls that we hung all around in bright blue, orange, and white. This topped everything off and made it perfect. There were mustaches everywhere, which was quite cute. We had some hanging from the ceiling (Shalyse had fun taping them up with the broom!!) and some were just sitting on the food table.

Food: We had mustache sugar cookies, chocolate covered pretzels, Oreo pops, no bake cookies, and lemon/lime water... sugar high!!!!
The cookies: I really wanted to make mustache cookies. I was having a hard time finding some that were not terribly expensive. Finally I found a set of five at Orson and Gygi. They have everything, I think I spent too much time in the store. Ha ha I secretly love that store. My schedule was getting busy the week of the shower, so I made the cookies before hand and froze them, then I frosted them later. Spencer came over and helped me make the cookies, it was so much fun and yes we got distracted and made a face (Henry Boregard Wellington the Third!) It was quite funny! Spencer is a pro cookie maker, though he says differently.

Photo Booth: This was a very fun part of the shower. I must admit, it was my favorite. I bought a really cute frame and painted it black. I had fun looking for props for the photo booth. We decided to do this just to bring some fun into the air. We had goofy glasses with noses, hats, ties, and tons of mustaches that everyone could take home with them. Everyone got into this and laughed while doing so. I even was able to get Chris to do this before he left for work. All the grandmas, including the grandma's to be got their pictures taken. When I looked back on the photos that were taken, I died of laughter, this was such a great idea! I am so glad people actually participated in it.

Games: While Kelsey was opening her gifts, we had the guests guess how big she was with string. I had previously measured her and had the correct one in my pocket. Most people guess too big, some guess too small, there was one person (Aunt Ann) who guess spot on. Kelsey, with only six and a half weeks to go, is still tiny. She is so cute pregnant! But I sure can't wait to meet Kenton. We also played a candy game. There were phrases about pregnancy that they had to come up with a candy to go with it. Phrases like: Daddy before conception-BIG HUNK, Daddy after conception-SUGAR DADDY, triplets- 3 MUSKETEERS and so on. It was a hit but most people couldn't guess all of them.
I was very pleases with the outcome and how many people came to support Kelsey, Chris, and the soon to be Kenton. I am thrilled to meet him! These next six weeks better go by fast! The gifts she got were wonderful, and baby stuff is the cutest! I had to look at all of the stuff a million times! So small and snuggly! The crib is all set up, and thanks to Kristine Cunningham (Chris' mom) it now has all of the bedding! She is very talented, it is adorable. I am so happy that I got to do this shower! It was awesome! Kenton, we love you!

The journey of my new smile...

I felt like blogging about the journey of getting my new smile. Oh boy! It sure has been a long, painful, and exciting process. In May of  2000 I was riding my bike, like a big girl (I was 8) with a bunch of my siblings and cousins, to my grandma's church (which was just down the street from where she lives. Staying on the side of the road as instructed, there was a man hole cover that was not pushed down all the way. Being toward the back of the bike line I didn't notice that it was up about three or so inches. Everyone else had dodged it and went around it. I, going full speed to keep up went straight over it and flipped over my bike handle bar, bike still in hand I landed on my stomach. I got up, a little dizzy and discombobulated got up thinking that was pretty sweet that I survived that epic crash. I didn't know how bad it was until my sister Kelsey started screaming "Kacey! Kacey! You have blood running down your face!" I immediately put my hand to my face a

10 years going strong!

Friends! I am dedicating this post to my upcoming 10 year Anniversary with Type 1 Diabetes. I would like to share my story, for some it may make you cry, others it will hit home, and for some I know you will read the title and not get what you expected. But please I ask you to read so that you know where I stand. Ten years ago on August 5, 2003 my mom took me to see my Pediatrician. We went in there together and came out with news no one expects to hear. To be honest I thought it was a great way to get out of school, but after I received the news I would have taken school back. We went in not knowing what to expect, however everyone who knew me, knew that I was sick. I was in the 6th grade and lost 20 pounds in a short period of 2 weeks. I was literally a walking skeleton at less than 70 pounds. My cheeks were sunk in, the rose color that was naturally on my skin was gone, and there were dark circles around my eyes. I had no energy at all. To get up to my room (at the time) I had to

19 going on 20!!

Well, I'm super excited to no longer be a "teen"! Even though it's not that old, I feel old! So much has happened in 20 years. A little bit ago I have had the opportunity of where I was all by myself and I was flooded with memories. I have been through a lot but I believe that is was not to torture me, to make me cry or even hurt me. I believe that because of all the things I have gond through, I am the person I am today. I look back at who I was, just a year ago, oh how weak I was, getting hurt by silly things, crying for pointless things, and still... very childish. Although I will always be young at heart, I look at myself now, and see the exact oppostie. I am much stronger than I used to be both physically and mentally. Yes I still cry, but it's different now. I have had to grow up a lot over the last little bit, and I have never been more grateful. Recently I had a conversation with  a really good friend of mine. It made me realize, I'm pretty lucky! So
