Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas Everyone!! This year for Christmas the best gift that I received was having all of my family be together in one house! Wow, now that has been a while, but I totally loved it! I could not be happier, and by far it beats the presents that could have under the tree! My family is so funny when we get together. My ditsy twin sister was so excited to show me her footsie pajamas that when she came prancing down the stairs, she slipped and ran into our kitchen wall, the corner of it and dented it, ha I am so surprised that she didn't break her knee, but the poor wall ha! I hope that we can remember the true meaning of Christmas. Presents are wonderful, but that is not what Christmas is about. It's about remembering the birth of Christ and all the sacrifices that he made for us during his life. I love this season, and I love how close everyone becomes at this time! The miracles are countless and and magnificent, it's amazing to see how everyone sacrifices things for

Smile.....BIG!!!!

So... 11 years ago I was in a terrible bike accident, and today... I was finally able to get the smile of my dreams. Through much pain and swelling and patience, I am where I am today! I could not be happier, and frankly I have never stopped smiling. Gap or not, I can't stop this smile from appearing, try smiling all day long its a great face work-out! There is one thing I still need to do, I need to match the color of the canine teeth to the rest of my teeth, but that will only take bleaching. This has been quite the journey, but in the long run, so so worth it! I keep looking at them, because they are different, and even tough for the last six months I have had no gap, these are the real ones and they look beautiful. My dentist did a great job and he and his team helped me stay calm through the whole thing. So parents, and even those who aren't parents, always remember to put helmets on you and your children! So now my new motto is, SMILE BIG NO MATTER WHAT! This will help bu

Is it already December?

I feel like November never happened! Ha time is going by way too fast these days. So my word of advice is, never, ever take anything for granted, life is way too short, never live with a day of regret, because you never know when it will be taken away from you. I do know that this last month I have grown up so much and for that I am grateful!!  I also came to the realization that I am happy so happy, even though the things that have happened to me, have been full of tears and sadness, I can't help but smile. I always have to think... "there is always someone in a worse position"... I was having a conversation with one of my Aunts, whom I love dearly and am so grateful for her in my life about being happy. She told me something that hit me, which inspired me to write this blog. As I mentioned, I have had to do a lot of growing up the past few weeks, and doing some things with a smile can be difficult. She said, "You radiate happiness!" Not that I am trying to put

How to know when to be grateful!

Happy Thanksgiving friends! Wow time has sure flown by, I want to apologize for it taking so long for me to blog... my life literally has been crazy these past few weeks. Now I am not asking for a pity party, or your sympathy, because all of the incidents that have happened to me have helped me me more grateful for the things that I have instead of the things that I yearn after. Well buckle up, I am going to take you on my adventure the past couple of weeks. This time of year is when everyone should be gathering together and celebrating with family. Well my family has been doing so, but not like one would want. In the past two months or so , my family has had two surgeries, an emergency room visit, two cars break down to where we ended up getting a new car, and a sister get married,a sister get engaged, and a sister have an ovarian cyst burst. At first we all kept asking, when will we ever get a break from this hectic way of life. Well it never will get any easier, I am lucky to have

When you can't sing... DANCE!

There are times in my life that have been so frustrating, times that make me cry, and times that make me in a bad mood. I am sure that all of you have had some days like this... I've come to realize that all these things are just part of life. I have made a list of things that have helped me cope with dealing with the moments in life that make me have to stop and remember to breathe. I can only hope my list will help you in some way. (These are not listed in order, and I don't do them all everyday...) -The moment I start to feel the frustration arise, I go get a cold drink of water, it helps to cool the body and rejuvenate the brain. -I try reading something entertaining... NOT HOMEWORK OR ANATOMY!!! It helps me relax and start to think of other things, making me calm, even if it's 20 minutes, it works! Try it! -I eat fresh veggies or protein like string cheese, lettuce wraps, or almonds. When you get stressed or frustrated, your blood sugar rises, as does your bloo

Are you "Successful?"

Have you ever been asked the question, "Are you or have been successful in your life?" If not I promise you, you will! I was asked this recently while trying to earn a scholarship for the U. Honestly, looking back on my life, I can now say I have been rather successful. So what is success to you? Are you proud of what you have done in your life in the way that you have done it? Well if not, you should be! Look at where you are today, if you have not done the things you have done, you would not be where you are. Here are some ways to have a ... well mostly successful life! (Some ideas were taken from author, Alton Brown, I want to thank him for helping me be more optimistic about being successful!) -Don't look for your keys with a telescope-      ~I am constantly losing things, literally, and if I were to look for one small thing for a big thing (telescope) you can get overwhelmed by trying to find your answer. It helps to start small and work your way up, but as Brown s

They are married!!!

Well as many of you know... Kelsey and Chris are finally Mr. and Mrs. Cunningham! It was a beautiful day and everything went wonderfully. Getting up early to help the bride do her hair, put on her eyelashes, help her not stress out, but she was very calm and as the minutes were winding down of her being no longer without husband, we had lots of laughter and and shared good old times with each other. I am so happy for her! I had quite the adventure myself.... going up to the Salt Lake Temple. I picked up my friend Cierra and my Grandma. I had to pull over because my car was acting funny, we think it was just over heating. Luckily we made it to the temple on time and watched them come out the doors together as a MARRIED COUPLE!! I gave her a hug and it was by far the best hug I have ever received! This was such a great day and I am love them both that they made the decision to be married in the temple! It has been quite the journey! After the temple, and some waiting at the house for a

A much needed FALL BREAK!!

Oh goodness..... I feel like the last little while has been so busy, I am sorry I have not been faithful about keeping up on my blog, so now I will try and catch you up!!!! You know it is fall when leaves start changing colors (I really want to take a canyon drive to see them... any takers??) and a brisk breeze is in the air. My bedroom is in the basement, and I now have to layer on the blankets and clothes when I go to sleep. Welcome to Utah! Ha but it's ok, I decided I love this time of year for many different reasons and layering up is one of them. I also love cuddling up with my blanket, stick in a chick-flick, and fall asleep, oh so much fun. There is also football, pumpkins everywhere, crisp apples and peaches, and the smell of spices like nutmeg and cinnamon everywhere! (The smell of fall is just so great!) I love to start taking pictures of this time of year with my family because everyone just seems so happy, it's not blazing hot, or wretched cold... it's somewhe

This is what happens when you have a day off...

Well people, life has been totally crazy these past two weeks! I have been studying super hard for anatomy, and it started to pay off! I could actually understand what was going on and I am loving learning more ha ha even though it was kind of overwhelming getting ready for my test. Woot woot! I am still loving my Nutrition  class and I am kind of being a crazy person about what I eat... I just really enjoy the value of what I put in my body and how it can effect my health. Life is too important to just throw away, so in order to maintain a healthy life and good habits, you need to start now, it on average, take 21 days to make something a habit. So people.... are you doing good habits? Don't follow those fad diets and totally eliminate something from your body, just watch how much you eat and I promise you with some exercise ( 3 days of cardio, 3 days of anaerobic exercises, and one day or two days of rest) you will feel so much better! Remember my last post about water... continu

Trying something new!!

In my Nutrition class I have learned so many new and interesting things. I am really enjoying this class, even though doing the assignments can be a little stressful, learning how to better improve my habits is awesome! This week my fellow bloggers, I am putting you to the challenge that I was put to. So far my experience with it has been only good results, as expected. Did you know that the average American consumes eats about 4700 mg of sodium a day when we are ONLY RECOMMENDED  to have 2300 mg to survive! It's sad how much we rely on salt to flavor things, or add that extra zing we all crave. If you never ever salt your food, well first of all good for you, second of all how boring, and third of all you are only getting 500 mg of sodium which is NOT ENOUGH to survive. Thanks to being an American, everything is processed and the options of fast foods are limitless. In order to maintain a healthy pH level in your blood we have to have an equilibrium of vitamins, minerals, and of c

Being a twin... Rocks!

As many of you know, I am a twin. In some cases twins hate each other and are jealous of the other one. I am not saying this lightly when I say my twin, Kelsey is my best friend. No matter what she has ALWAYS been there for me and I for her. Sometimes I swear we are connected at the hip and can finish each other's sentences. Ever since we were little, we have had basically the same interests and friends. Now even though we are twins, we are very very different. I have to laugh when people say, "You guys are so much alike," or "Have you guys switched places? God made us sisters but chance made us best friends. I am so grateful for the relationship we have with each other. Growing up I definitely took for granted sharing every single thing with her: clothes, conversations, smiles, tears, boys (ha ha that's another story), a room, a car, pretty much what was mine was hers and visa versa. When it was time to go to college she moved out to St. George and I stayed here

The journey of my new smile...

I felt like blogging about the journey of getting my new smile. Oh boy! It sure has been a long, painful, and exciting process. In May of  2000 I was riding my bike, like a big girl (I was 8) with a bunch of my siblings and cousins, to my grandma's church (which was just down the street from where she lives. Staying on the side of the road as instructed, there was a man hole cover that was not pushed down all the way. Being toward the back of the bike line I didn't notice that it was up about three or so inches. Everyone else had dodged it and went around it. I, going full speed to keep up went straight over it and flipped over my bike handle bar, bike still in hand I landed on my stomach. I got up, a little dizzy and discombobulated got up thinking that was pretty sweet that I survived that epic crash. I didn't know how bad it was until my sister Kelsey started screaming "Kacey! Kacey! You have blood running down your face!" I immediately put my hand to my face a

School....What fun this is going to be!

School started for me on Monday, and so far, my assumptions are, it's going to be one fun/tough semester. Not only was I excited to finally figure out that this semester is going to be fun, but my next two are going to be equally as fun! (I wish you could hear my sarcasm!)! This semester, I am not taking too many classes, but every class is tough. Starting with Human Anatomy, my professor is awesome and he really knows how to teach this class, running to the other end of campus, I have Interpersonal Communications, this professor has such a personality I am really going to enjoy this class as I learn more about communicating with others. My next class is pretty boring, where my professor lectures my class about the civilization of America... in a deep, very monotone voice, can I get a whoop whoop? Again running to the opposite end of campus, I swear the fifteen minutes between all of my classes is really not enough. I love my nutrition class... as of Monday I decided to minor in nu

The Last week before school... the best ever!

This was the last week before school starts again for the semester. And by far, this week has been the best week of the summer, what a great week to end a fantastic summer! Monday : I had the wonderful opportunity to make Kelsey's bridal shower invitations, they all turned out so cute! Even though my hand started cramping up, I still had lots of fun being creative and making them. I went to family home evening with my ward and had lots of fun playing volleyball with a four square ball! I had a really fun time at Zumba doing our old routines and a killer leg and arm workout. Tuesday : I worked at the salon for six hours then I worked at Carter's for five, wow what a day, by the end of the night I was tuckered out and popped in a movie and fell asleep watching it. Wednesday : I went through a training program for Carter's, even though I have been working there since April, it was really fun though!! I went to Zumba that night and had fun with Cierra at it! Thursday : I we

Zumba... It's my new thing!

Everyone... Let me tell you about my new thing! My cousin teaches a Zumba class in Sandy! I started doing Zumba back in February and I absolutely love it, it has brought out the "dancer in me". The classes have so much energy and not only have I lost weight but I have toned my muscles, I have never felt so great in my life. At first I was very hesitant to shake it and let loose, but everyone does it and no watches you, so now I don't even care! Every time I go, I look forward to the workout, each class is different and always puts a smile on my face. I have had quite the experience, going from pretty reserved and self conscious about not keeping up, to doing a performance, to going every other day and LOVING EVERY MINUTE! For those of you who have never taken a Zumba class, it is a Latin dancing workout, with popular songs, with every class you burn many calories, while having the time of you life. If you had a bad day, I promise you that by the time you leave you will

Utterly declious peanut-butter bars!!!

Friday... After work, I decided to go to the Temple, since the Draper Temple is closed for cleaning, I went to the Jordan River Temple, I had an amazing experience. When I was done getting confirmed, one of the witnesses asked me, "What did you say your last name was?" "Kevern" "Who is your grandpa?" "Eugene Kevern..." "You need to come with me." By this point I was a little confused and couldn't understand what was going on, I thought I was in trouble, so I just followed this little old man to the front window where you check in and fill out your name tag. " He opened the door and said, "Madlyn, guess who I have found! Your cousin Eugene's granddaughter!" This small lady with silvery hair beamed when she heard my grandpa's name. I then  found out that I was related to this amazing couple, I started smiling and laughing at the situation. We visited for a while, then I went to do baptisms, I could feel the spir

A summer of growing up!

This summer... wow, so much has happened, I have most definitely found a new me, one that is strong, fun, outgoing, looks forward to learning new things, spontaneous, and excited to live each day to its fullest! I have enjoyed meeting new people and finding out who I really am, nothing, and when I say nothing, I truly mean it, nothing can or will hold me back, I am on a whole new level. I feel on top of the world and right now I can only hope that when school starts back up again, that I can keep my head high and come to learn to like my anatomy class...Yippie!! This summer, my cute cute niece, would come over everyday and I have loved watching her grow up and do many things. Just the other day she was helping my sister clean her car, I guess they are never too young! If I could sum up my experience from this summer in a few words it would be... Summer of never letting things get to you too much. This summer has been rough, but at the same time it has been wonderful! I found this quo

A little bit about me!!

My name is Kacey Lee Kevern. I am currently a student at the University of Utah and I love it so much. I have been considering creating a blog for quite a while... so many things have happened, that I have been so distracted, so... now that I have time I would love to share things with you. I am not trying to change the world, make you become my best friend, or even talk to me, all I want to do is maybe give some hope to those who come and read my blog. Something that I live by, and so far my friends, it seems to be working, goes like this; Go forth and do, JUST GO FORTH AND DO! There is not enough time in the world to dwell in the mistakes we have made, trust me I have learned my lesson the hard way. If you have a bad attitude about something, change it as soon as it comes over your mind. I have been through my fair share of trials in my life and everyday I ask, why, why did this have to happen to me. Now that those things have happened to me, guess what folks, I am still living and n
