Shiveley's take California 2015

This is our California adventure. Lots of pictures here because I didn't want to blow up your Instagram feed or Facebook feed
Spencer and I have been dying to go back to California pretty much since we got back from our honeymoon. (I don't really remember the exact time though). Suddenly we were saving up and then we bought our tickets to an Angel's game as soon as they were available. We were like little kids and were counting down the days until we could go.
Finally the time came for us to leave our little apartment for a few days to enjoy our vacation. We woke early on the day we left and literally hit zero traffic. Of course I drifted off for a little bit, as I normally do on road trips. While driving we came upon this huge and long cloud that covered the road. It was way neat, so naturally I snapped a picture in the midst of it.
On our way there we realized we were making great timing. We arrived in Vegas around 11:30ish. We decided we needed to get out and stretch, and walk the strip. It was beautiful outside. We made it to the Hershey's factory and saw the biggest hershey bar ever. We walked around the shops and hotels for a few hours before we got lunch. And before the next 2 hour stretch.

Finally we made it to Rancho and it was cold! Well colder than Utah, which was surprising for us. After going on a walk, going to get dinner, we had a good visit with our Aunt Sherie. By that point we were way tired and getting excited for our next day's adventure.... Disneyland!!

First of all I have not been to Disneyland in over ten years and I was very excited! Spencer seemed even more excited than me (believe it or not). We got there before they opened the gates. As soon as they opened them, we went straight to the famous Space Mountain, as did everyone else. We made it and waited in line for about ten minutes and finally we got on! My husband is a big child and made every ride so much fun. We screamed, laughed, and tried holding our arms up the whole time.

We went on all of the good rides in Disneyland before we ventured to California Adventure theme park. Spencer insisted we go on Tower of Terror. I caved and agreed to go. We waited for a long time to find out that the elevator we were supposed to go on broke. We waited some more and then before I knew it, it was too late to say "I need to pee" or "I am not feeling up to this ride" or anything to get me out. Going into this ride, I thought I would be safe and not really see how high we were. My husband totally had me convinced that we wouldn't see anything, we would just be inside an elevator. For the most part that was true. We shot up and watched the fake elevator drop. I am pretty sure I swore when we dropped a million miles an hour and shot back up. Suddenly the doors shot open and sure enough we could see out. I freaked out. Literally. I needed to get off. However I have never laughed so hard in my life. Notice in the picture below I am not looking and my hands are tightly wrapped around the handle bars.  (I am in the back next to my crazy arm-waving-husband)
Given that story, you can probably imagine how Screamin' California went.... I held on tight, my eyes were glued shut, and I screamed like a little girl who had just seen a spider. I actually really like that ride, it is just a little intense. Spencer commented, "Babe, I have never seen you so scared!" Spencer also knows where all of the cameras are, so he actually looks decent in all of these. Jerk. Look at me!

While at Disney, it was cold and rainy. I kept a jacket on the whole day. It was awesome and better than the heat. After riding all of the rides we could and walking miles, we got ice cream. We found Ghirardelli's and in honor of our honeymoon we got the Nob Hill Chill. It was the best way to finish our magical day. I can't wait to go back!

May 9, 2015- Happy 7 months of marriage to us! We slept in and then decided to go to Newport Beach. Yes it was overcast and windy but way worth it. On our way there, we got stuck in a toll lane. Thanks to our GPS and then me following every direction it gave. Plus the freeway's in Cali are way confusing. Part of the adventure right? Walking on the beach and to the little shops was perfect. Especially with my husband. Once we got hungry we got some tacos from the famous Chronic Tacos. Yum! (We may or may not have eaten way too many calories this trip!!) We then made it over to our Aunt and Uncle's house and relaxed for a few hours before our next adventure.
The time came for us to leave to drive to the Angel's Stadium. It turned out the be a gorgeous evening and perfect for a baseball game. This was my very first Major League Baseball game! And our first game as Mr. and Mrs. Shiveley. We had been saving up for some Angel's attire. After getting our tickets we went straight to the gift shop. Wow there is so much to choose from, which actually made it quite difficult for me. We had the best seats, right on the third base line. It was such a great experience and we had tons of fun! Spencer even got his Churro!

And that's a wrap! This trip was fast, but much needed. We loved every minute of it. We have the best family too! Thanks for sharing your homes with us, so we could crash there! Until next time Cali. Let's not make it too long though!

The journey of my new smile...

I felt like blogging about the journey of getting my new smile. Oh boy! It sure has been a long, painful, and exciting process. In May of  2000 I was riding my bike, like a big girl (I was 8) with a bunch of my siblings and cousins, to my grandma's church (which was just down the street from where she lives. Staying on the side of the road as instructed, there was a man hole cover that was not pushed down all the way. Being toward the back of the bike line I didn't notice that it was up about three or so inches. Everyone else had dodged it and went around it. I, going full speed to keep up went straight over it and flipped over my bike handle bar, bike still in hand I landed on my stomach. I got up, a little dizzy and discombobulated got up thinking that was pretty sweet that I survived that epic crash. I didn't know how bad it was until my sister Kelsey started screaming "Kacey! Kacey! You have blood running down your face!" I immediately put my hand to my face a

10 years going strong!

Friends! I am dedicating this post to my upcoming 10 year Anniversary with Type 1 Diabetes. I would like to share my story, for some it may make you cry, others it will hit home, and for some I know you will read the title and not get what you expected. But please I ask you to read so that you know where I stand. Ten years ago on August 5, 2003 my mom took me to see my Pediatrician. We went in there together and came out with news no one expects to hear. To be honest I thought it was a great way to get out of school, but after I received the news I would have taken school back. We went in not knowing what to expect, however everyone who knew me, knew that I was sick. I was in the 6th grade and lost 20 pounds in a short period of 2 weeks. I was literally a walking skeleton at less than 70 pounds. My cheeks were sunk in, the rose color that was naturally on my skin was gone, and there were dark circles around my eyes. I had no energy at all. To get up to my room (at the time) I had to

19 going on 20!!

Well, I'm super excited to no longer be a "teen"! Even though it's not that old, I feel old! So much has happened in 20 years. A little bit ago I have had the opportunity of where I was all by myself and I was flooded with memories. I have been through a lot but I believe that is was not to torture me, to make me cry or even hurt me. I believe that because of all the things I have gond through, I am the person I am today. I look back at who I was, just a year ago, oh how weak I was, getting hurt by silly things, crying for pointless things, and still... very childish. Although I will always be young at heart, I look at myself now, and see the exact oppostie. I am much stronger than I used to be both physically and mentally. Yes I still cry, but it's different now. I have had to grow up a lot over the last little bit, and I have never been more grateful. Recently I had a conversation with  a really good friend of mine. It made me realize, I'm pretty lucky! So
