Women's Conference 2015

Friends, I had the incredible opportunity to go to BYU's Women's Conference with my generous mother-in-law and both of my sisters-in-law. This was my first time and the experiences I had I will cherish forever. I will tell you right off I will be sharing some personal and spiritual things. I am not trying to convert anyone or change how you believe  in things, but I wanted to write down how I felt after such an amazing two days of being uplifted by the spirit. Women's Conference is held at Brigham Young University, and is for women mostly, however there are some men that tag along. It is two days long filled with LDS speakers and talks. There are 15 or so talks to choose from each hour, for three hours. You get to choose which classes you want to go to and quite honestly if I had the time and will power I would have gone to much more than that. There is a morning session before we all break out into our classes of choice (all over campus) and then we all met back together...

Onto to a new place

I know I am late at posting this, but it really is never too late to blog! Of course I have many things to update you on, but this one is only going to be about one. Way back in February, Spencer and I started looking for a new place to live as our lease was coming to an end. Everywhere we looked (online mostly) appeared to be amazing, until we read the reviews or actually drove by. Each time we got a bad feeling and onto the next place we went. Now, #10 was great, but we wanted a few updates. We wanted a fresh smelling apartment, a little extra space, and a bathroom with no mold growing on the ceiling due to an awkward window and no fan. Was that too much to ask? Well I guess it was until we had the idea to go talk to our current landlord to see if they had any openings in a different building. As I walked in I was nervous to hear, "Sorry, we don't have any more openings". They were working on a new building with 16 brand new apartments and we had seen people move it. ...

Living with Type 1 diabetes

Hey friends! This blog is dedicated to all of those who are suffering from yet living a full  and normal life with Type 1 diabetes. With a life long disease, isn't it wonderful to live in a time where we will find a cure one day for this disease? The technology is amazing and continues to help all of those who who have diabetes live a normal life. I would like to explain what it is like living with an autoimmune disease such as Type 1 diabetes. A normal day for a diabetic: Wake up, shower, get ready Test blood sugar, good number Prepare breakfast Count carbs Bolus Prepare lunch Count carbs Go to work Drink water Lunch time Test blood sugar, good number Bolus Back to work Drink water Clock out, go home Test blood sugar Go to the gym Test blood sugar, good number Eat snack Count Carbs Bolus Prepare dinner Test blood sugar, good number Eat dinner Count carbs Bolus Get ready for bed Test blood sugar, good number, no snack Go to bed Repeat. Wait... that...

Addicted to Love

Hey friends! I hope all is going well with you. Life lately has been so wonderful yet challenging at the same time. I continue to learn things everyday and grow closer to my husband. Marriage is a never ending lesson, however; I love learning how to be a better wife, learning how to communicate effectively, and most importantly increase the love that I have for others. I hate to admit this but I am a huge sap for romance. Valentine's Day, one of my least favorite holidays,  has made me strive to show that same kind of love that is advertised everyday. So I am challenging myself to make everyday like Valentine's Day. I love watching chick flicks, crying at cute things, and of course love eating chocolate. I believe that Valentine's Day is overrated with expensive flowers, candy, dates etc.... but I also am guilty of trying to make a day full of cheesy yet sentimental things. This year was our first Valentine's Day as Mr. and Mrs. Shiveley. It was quite wonderful! The w...

Marriage lessons

It has been three months since Spencer and I were married! Can you believe that? I wanted to take a minute and reflect on the fun times of learning, growing, and laughing (Spencer if you read this, don’t be embarrassed!). I am not doing this to admit our faults or embarrassing things we do. Being married is wonderful and so eye opening.  Now, I am no expert in marriage, nor do I ever plan to be. However; my marriage is important to me and I am going to work to be an expert in my own marriage. Being married has proven to me that the love you have for one person can grow everyday whether you notice it or not. Coming from a family of all girls, I had no idea what living with a male was like. In fact I was quite clueless to some things. With the high expectations of what the movies can set up for us on what marriages should be like, please know that they will lead you to some false hopes (which you will learn to laugh at later). Let me give you some examples. In the “perfect ma...

Saying Goodbye to 2014 and Hello to 2015

As I have reflected on the past year, so many wonderful things have happened that have changed my life for the better. 2014 forced me at times to go out of my comfort zone and find new ways to handle situations. I have never been so grateful for a the trials and struggles that were put in front of me then for the ones that I faced this year. In the blink of an eye, this year was over, but I wanted to share the most exciting and most memorable moments of 2014. -In January I decided to have some fun and go to the Bridal show with my twin to open my eyes to planning a wedding that would shortly arrive 10 months later. The joys of getting my dress a week later helped me get excited for what was coming later in the year. I learned to value my family and how much they did for me to help me prepare to become married to the love of my life. -As I continued to go to school full time up at the University of Utah I was able to finish a year long project with teenage mothers with the best group...

Fa la la la! It's Christmas at the Shiveley's

Well as I had promised in my last post, it's all about Christmas this time! Christmas is one of my favorite holidays, not because of the gifts, but because it reminds me of my Savior's birth and how that birth has changed the world. It brings out the good in people (even the ones that seem they could never be good), it is the perfect season to get all cozy and have as many friends and family members over, it is inevitably full of Christ, as it should be (and so should every other day of the year). Whether or not you believe in Him or not, how can you not be full of His spirit around this time of year? I love Christmas! I could go on and on about the Christmas traditions that I love or stories that have shaped me to the person I am today. I will spare you of all of them except for a few. When I was younger there were quite a few years where I longed for many presents from Santa. I wrote him long lists, like every child expecting every last little thing on that list to be place...
